SCMS, the premier
professional academic group in Cochin, offers for the first time
in India, M.Sc programmes in the frontier areas of biotechnology
like Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Genomics,
Proteomics, Toxicology, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at
the Biotechnology Division of SCMS School of Technology and
Management, Cochin.
All these
programmes are research oriented and are delivered at the SCMS
Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology Research & Development
Division of the SCMS Group, which already has a well equipped
research lab functioning since 2007. An efficient team of
scientists under the Directorship of the nationally reputed
Bioscientist Dr. C. Mohan Kumar has been conducting research on
areas like Transgenic crops, Genetic Disorders, Molecular
Diagnosis of Diseases, Gene Sequencing, Primer Synthesis and
Designing, DNA Finger Printing, Genetic Polymorphism – RAPD,
RFLP, AFLP & DDRT, Micro Array analysis and Quantification of
gene expression by Real Time PCR.
The
Biotechnology Research Institute of SCMS Group is already a
centre for research based degrees of M.Tech, Integrated Ph.D and

1 practical. The 4th semester of the course will be
exclusively focused on research work for the completion
of the project study (dissertation). The dissertation
shall be submitted at the end of 4th semester. There
shall also be a comprehensive viva-voce along with the
presentation of dissertation work at the end of the 4th
semester.
-
Dissertation: Each candidate shall submit a
dissertation in four copies of the research project
undertaken by him/her at the end of 4th semester to the
University for valuation.

For a
pass a candidate must obtain a minimum of 50% in each
paper, internal assessment and external examination
taken together. Those who fail in any paper need to
appear for re-examination in that paper only. A
candidate may be declared to have passed the degree
course in second class if he/she obtains an aggregate of
less than 60% of marks in all papers taken together, in
first class if he/she obtains an aggregate of 60% or
more marks in all papers taken together provided one
completes all papers in the first attempt and in first
class with distinction if he/she gets 75% or more marks
in aggregate of the total marks in the first attempt
