SCMS Centre for Research on
‘New Management Thought’

School of Communication and Management Studies (SCMS) has initiated a Research Cell for identifying and encouraging research in to new thoughts in management. This initiative is in collaboration with Prof.Subhash Sharma (currently Director, Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore) who has done pioneering work in conceptualizing different thoughts and ideas on new management theories and frame works. Prof.Sharma has published several articles and books on new ethos in management drawing from some of the most valued documents like Vedas.

Management thoughts have evolved over a period of time, mostly in the west. Concepts were developed and these were questioned resulting in new concepts and paradigms. The work of Prof.Subahsh Sharma has contributed to a general awakening on the possibilities of developing new concepts in management in India, following the Indian Management ethos. SCMS also thought appropriate to get involved in this new wave of inspired research on conceptualizing new frame works and paradigms in management thought, by drawing from the Indian ethos

Therefore SCMS has initiated some new research in identifying “The Cultural Correlates and the Concepts of Effective Management” in the context of Kerala.

Another area where SCMS proposes to get involved in researching is on “The Managerial Dimensions of Development”. The word ‘development’ has several connotations and applied meanings depending on the ideological baggage, ingrained in the conception of development. This ideological baggage also gives colours and shades to concepts of effective management. In the context of Kerala this is assuming considerable importance as different political parties have defined the ultimate impact of development based on their political ideologies. Such thinking also generates new questions on what is “Successful Management” or “Project Management”, defined rigidly from ideologically ordained development.
