PANORAMA 2009

 

Theme : Transformation – The Path Ahead

 

In the changing business environment the nature of business management is also shifting from running the business to transforming the business. Often it involves fundamental changes in the way business operates. Successful businesses are in a continuous state of transformation. The path ahead is clear.

 

 

The students of SCMS-COCHIN organised a two-day National Management Convention - Panorama 2009 - on November 6 and 7 with the theme entitled: Transformation – The path ahead.

 

 

Shri V.K.Mathews, Chairman and CEO, IBS, Thiruvananthapuram was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. Shri N. Ahmedali, MD, Cornucopia, Bangalore , was the key note speaker. Prof.A.K.Nair, Vice Chairman, SCMS Group welcomed the gathering and Dr.V.Raman Nair, Director, SCMS-COCHIN, proposed the vote of thanks.

 

 

Shri. Mathews, in his inaugural address, explained that only through a strong entrepreneurial drive our country could achieve job self sufficiency and attain the targeted economic growth

 

Shri. Ahmedali spoke on ‘Inspiring Transformation through Personal Leadership.’

 

 

In the first business session Shri Alappat Abraham Sr. VP, Future Generali Insurance, spoke on the winds of transformation sweeping across the realm of marketing. Shri. Madhu Soman, Reuters India, spoke on the paradigm shifts in the media sphere. The session was chaired by Prof. Mariakutty Varkey, HOD, S&O.

 

In the second session chaired by Prof K J Paulose, Dean,

 

Shri. Mohan Kannan, CEO, Mint Biz Solutions, spoke on the need to conserve and regroup in tough times. Shri C.S.Anil Kumar, VP-HR, Reliance Retail, asserted that change management is the key to business transformation in the retail sector. Smt. Preethi Gopalakrishnan, Head-HR, ACS, India, stressed on the need to concentrate more on the practical aspects of business, by being dynamic and flexible and making transformation an integral part of our culture.

 

The second day started with the third session chaired by Dr.Filomina P.George, Dean (AA). Shri. Thampy Koshy, Executive Director, NSDL, who spoke first, dealt with two aspects, namely, environmental transformation and personal transformation, the one leading to the other. Shri. V Ramesh, CFO, AVT McCormick, spoke on the role of the finance professional in the changing circumstances.

 

 

The fourth session was chaired by Prof..Sreekumar B. Pillai, HOD-

 

Retail Marketing & Merchandising. Shri K.N.Ajit, VP & Head-HR, Sify, spoke of how transformation is imperative for accelerated growth. According to Shri Muthiah, VP-HR, Carborundam Universal, who spoke next, human resource is the key and the objective of the transformation process. Shri Jeswin Kadavan, GM-HR, Vodafone, spoke on the importance of vision for bringing about business transformation.  

 

 

Shri.M.S.A.Kumar, CMD, AVT McCormick, was the Chief Guest at the valedictory session. Dr.Radha Thevannoor, Director, SSTM, welcomed the gathering. Smt.Rajeswari, Asst.Professor, presented a summary of the proceedings. Prof.R.T.R.Varma, HOD-Marketing, proposed the vote of thanks.
