Mechanical Engineering (ME), titled as “The Mother of All Engineering Disciplines”, links all engineering disciplines together and provides a base for all engineering education.ME is often referred as the Evergreen Field, because the applications of mechanical engineering have spread over such a wide spectrum that it has penetrated into almost every industry. ME graduates can find career in almost every sector, right from agriculture to aerospace, manufacturing to medical field, automobile to atmosphere, robotics to renewable energy and innovation to incubation and many more.
The more you look into you and the nature around, mechanical engineering wonders will amaze you and the Department Mechanical Engineering of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology houses all the necessary ingredients to take you through the wonderful journey of Mechanical Engineering education to reach beyond the traditional knowledge in the field.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in SSET started in the year 2001. It currently offers a UG program with an intake of 120 students and a PG program with specialization in Production and Industrial Engineering with an intake of 18 students. The department promotes a learning environment conducive for research, innovation and scholarly activities.
Well qualified, highly interdisciplinary and experienced team of faculty members specialised in fields like Thermal Engineering, Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Machine Design, Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing, Fluid Mechanics & Dynamics, Nanomaterials, Industrial Engineering, Additive Manufacturing etc.
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like 3D printers (Higher End - Stratasys Objet30 Pro, Germany & Training Purpose – Ultimaker), 3D scanner (Comet, Steinbichler, Germany), Flexible Manufacturing Systems Centre, CNC Lathe, CNC Milling Machine etc. Training and Certification in advanced licensed software packages like Creo, CATIA, SIMULIA, DELMIA, AUTO CAD etc.
Excellent ambience for both graduate and undergraduate level research and innovation. The department has been receiving national/international level awards and recognitions in the area of research and innovation pertaining to Mechanical Engineering. Three student Start-ups’ of the department are in the incubation stage and the department is encouraging and expecting more student start-ups in the coming years.
Student Chapters of Internationally accepted Professional bodies like American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). A team of the third-year students of the department were qualified from Asia Pacific region to compete in the Global ASME Engineers Fest, USA, during November 2018.
Association of Mechanical Engineers for Research and Innovation - SSET (ARiME), the department association formed by, for and of the students, jointly headed by faculty and student members play an excellent role of centrally organising and managing co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the department.
The department of ME has been consistent in attracting national as well as International recognition from 2001 onwards, the most recent additions to these records are: Semi-Finalist in the ASME Global Engineer’s Fest Student Design Competition, USA, National Level Runner-up in Hybrid Car Design and Development, National Finalist in Bio-Inspired Fish-Shaped Unmanned Underwater Vehicle for Remote Surveillance competition organised by IIT Mumbai and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Runner-up in the First ever ‘Innovative idea competition’ of A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala.
71 students of the current final year have been offered campus placement and 11 students have cleared the first phase of their admission for higher studies in USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Italy and Australia
